Blog Post #2 Gabby Petito's Case = Social Media Crisis

Social media is so important when managing a crisis because being able to reach millions of people to grab their attention to have them read about the crisis and help spread the word is truly grateful. Gabby Petito was a social media influencer and that is how people started to get involved with helping the police and family members find her. People could link the time stamped posts with how many days from when she went missing and were able to find connections with witnesses through social media. Many people on social media were following this case closely to get involved on their Tik Tok accounts to provide evidence and their theories on Gabby's case. MSNBC posted an article saying that Gabby Petito having a big part on social media platforms by having a youtube channel with her fiance Brian Laundrie and posting on her Instagram during their van trip definitely played a role with how quick the case was to be put into motion to find her (Phang, 2021). I believe that if all the chatter of Gabby's case was ignored the officials and her family would still have unsolved questions and Gabby's fiance Brian would still be alive if all the social media videos and pictures where ignored and did not get any acknowledgment. I truly believe that social media can have a huge impact on crises that need attending to be able to reach multiple people to have them help in any way they can to show the social media community cares and will support anyone that needs it with the right reasons.
